Hospitality on board is judged differently from hospitality in a garden. Guests are within a few metres of each other, everything is visible, and there is nowhere to hide a badly planned station.
The honest answer is that most of what looks wonderful on a terrace should stay on the quay.
Roaming service beats fixed stations on deck
Two hosts with trays of chilled coupes serve a deck reception better than any cart, because they use no floor space and reach guests who are seated or in conversation.
It also solves the circulation problem: nobody has to cross a crowded deck to get a drink, which is the main reason guests stop drinking at a yacht party.
Put the spectacle on the quay
A champagne cart and wall at the passerelle is an excellent arrival moment. Guests gather there before boarding, it photographs well against the hull, and it never has to be manoeuvred on board.
The same applies to gelato during a show week: quayside, in shade, served to guests coming and going.
Clarify access early
Berth number, gate, escort requirement and delivery window determine everything. In Port Hercule and Port Vauban these need arranging through the agent or captain, not on the day.
Ask your supplier directly whether their equipment can cross your passerelle. A straight answer at the enquiry stage is worth more than enthusiasm.

Keep the offer short
Charter and owner receptions rarely run more than two hours. A short, excellent offer — champagne, or specialty coffee for a daytime event — serves better than a broad one nobody has time to explore.
Coffee is the most underrated on-board experience: guests have usually been in the sun and would genuinely rather have a cold brew than another glass.
Plan for the space you have rather than the picture you saw, and yacht hospitality becomes simple: excellent champagne, brought to people, with everything else arranged quayside.
